The past couple of weeks have been an extraordinary time.  So many things changed in such a brief period that there is only one word I can think of to adequately describe it: upheaval.

How do we react to times such as these?  Do we run to our bunkers and slam the door behind us?  Do we move forward and pretend nothing is wrong?

I briefly considered placing The Purpled Nail on hiatus.  That would have been easy, but I decided not to.  It came down to this: Either we believe the promises of God or we don’t.

Those of you who know me know also that that last two years have been rough.  Now, with the coronavirus, that seems to be a continuing pattern.  Not that I take the blame for pandemics.  But I do think that is what we can expect to see moving forward.

We live in the last days.  If not the coronavirus, it will be something else: war, famine, earthquakes, economic challenges, extreme weather, oil shocks.  The list is virtually endless.

Our job here is not to fight back.  We’re not combatants.  Our role is not to overcome the obstacles.  That feat was accomplished at the cross.

Ephesians 6:13 tells us to “[T]ake up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand firm.”

Our job is to stand firm.

The King James Version ends this verse with “to stand.”

We are to stand.

We don’t need to advance.  We don’t need to attack.  We don’t need to move at all let alone give up ground.  There will be no retreat.  All we are required to do is stand.

In the face of it all, we stand firm.

We stand.
